I can fix it...I have been working as a sheet metal worker for 35 years and I also think it's worth about 120kr

Sensitive topic when someone criticizes completed work?
If you can't do it, you shouldn't. Even though I absolutely do not possess the skills of a sheet metal worker, I would most likely have succeeded better. Most people here would. Otherwise, explain what about this work you are satisfied with.

Best regards, fremax

Hello forum!!

I got a phone call from a relative today, when they were about to finalize the price for new gutters. They were going to charge 12,000 SEK for about 6m of gutters and 1 downpipe with connection. No new hooks for the gutter or brackets for the downpipe as the old ones were reused.

I talked to the guy who did the work on the phone, and he claims they agreed on 1200 SEK per meter. When questioning the high price, I was told it's made of high-quality material (aluminum). I've managed to trace the material to Trifa, a Hungarian brand, which seems to be coated aluminum. I will get equivalent material prices from my frequently used supplier tomorrow for comparison, but I find it hard to believe this work should be worth 1200 SEK per meter. Especially when I have major doubts about the quality.

For those who know, should it look like this?

Picture 1 downpipe connection to ground pipe. Missing transition and leaf separator?

Picture 2 ends only bent up. Does not connect to the fascia board and there's about a 3 cm gap.

Picture 3 feels like sloppily cut pipe with sharp splinters sticking out, it's uneven. Additionally, it is dented and attached to the old, non-fitting bracket with drywall screws (?). Isn't the downpipe also the wrong size, see the gutter and ground pipe.

I don't know if I'm completely off track, but this feels entirely wrong both in price and quality?

I'm meeting them tomorrow for further discussion…just wanted to get any input you might have…
Oh well, could have done it for free and it would be really neat. Of course, this is a scam. The guy who did the job deserves to be run out of town.

Well ... the thing about the seam has been discussed a lot here. Today's downpipes are of such good quality that there should be no problem turning the seam towards the wall, aesthetically it looks much better. On my house, the seam has been against the wall for 40 years without any problems :)

But the placement of the seam is probably the least of the problems here, as already pointed out, it looks terrible, tear it down, redo it, do it right. Since the job was not performed professionally, TS should not pay a penny until all errors are corrected.

My uncle is a building inspector, I sent your pictures to him. He said it was the worst he had seen. Firstly, one should not make scrap pieces, they rust easily and sit too low against the gravel, there should be space for the silk cup and you can see at the bottom of the downpipe that it should be turned upwards, you should not screw these because soon the rust will appear, so he wonders WHAT they used to attach the gutter, what the heck, he says. 12000kr is definitely not worth it. THREATEN THAT YOU WILL GET AN INSPECTOR THERE BEFORE YOU PAY, call the home insurance company and ask what you can do. He says it's forbidden to have a gap between the gutter and the timber. Your friend has been so deceived. If he or she were to sell the house, this would never be approved.
Aluminum does not rust! The crimped part of the pipe should be The vertical pipe seam should, according to AMA, be facing outward, away from the wall line!

That post really went wrong, I apologize for that!
