Problem with snow cleaning of the road

I många fall så är det ju krav på att skotta framför egen tomt.

Nu pratar du om vägar som plogas av kommunen. I en samfällighet avgör föreningen detta. Bra fråga för årsmötet.

What 98% of home owners i the south of Sweden miss; you’re really unkind to the mail man/woman and the one delivering the newspaper if you do not clear in front of your mailbox and driveway.

I delivered newpapers a couple of seasons up in Luleå. After heavy snow and/or due to a%%holes above, the delivery could take 5 hours instead of 3 since you had to exit the car many, many times.

I’ve got (pre-printed) “Thank you for keeping your driveway clean and accessible” from the postman on two occasions.

We are quite precise to clear in front of the mailbox. But it is also important to take into consideration that you do work in Sweden and it snows here. Everyone isn't at home just all the time waiting for the snow to clear off. Actually I am sure a lot of people aren't even thinking about it. To hand out a yearly information letter would be a good idea. THis I have never seen.

My conclusion here is that you take things for granted that people are not even informed about, or aware of.

E.g. our garbage bin, they don't empty it sometimes. When I call Renova to complain about it they say "the path and the slope wasn't cleared and sanded"
I then ask them if the garbage men are at all equipped for the winter climate, good shoes with spikes etc? As it can snow here and be slippery, and if they empty early in the morning it is not for sure that we even are awake. Then they don't know what to answer. I kill their silly arguments.

It seems they believe it is summer weather all year around! I then tell them I won't pay this time, and I deduct it from the invoice. They accept it actually. Rather than having me calling them.

Ungefär lika galet som att svenskar pratar engelska med danskar ibland. Det är ju nästan samma språk. Vi säljer till Danmark på jobbet och efter lite träning förstår man i princip allt de säger och de mig. Jag som inte ens är från Sverige begriper inte varför några av mina kollegor inte orskar lyssna och försöka förstå danska, utan kör med engelska. Slapphet?

Jag har jäkligt svårt för att inte hjälpa sopgubbar, sotaren, brevbäraren osv. De ska ju ha en dräglig vardag och inte riskera att varken skada sig eller slita ut sig.
Men det här med snö som är en självklarhet i Luleå att ta bort även om det handlar om att skotta sent på kvällen eller tidigt på morgonen funkar inte här i Stockholm. Alltid ”nån annan” som förväntas fixa, samma som med städdagar i BRF. Knepigaste grejen, sätter man en avgift så tycker folk ”toppen jag köper mig fri och hjälper inte till”

One other "nice" thing in Sweden.
By law a house owner need within 12 hours to clear the sidewalk from snow and sprinkle sand on the ice, outside your yard. Even if the yard doesn't border to the sidewalk, if it is within (4 m?). This is the rule of most towns.
There are no excuses if you are on vacation for a week or so. Then you need to have someone else to do it.

Do never buy a house with a yard next to a or close to a sidewalk! We did once learn our lesson the hard way. Never ever again!

This is not correct. It is not by law. It depends on the municipality. I live in Stockholm and I am not obliged to maintain the sidewalk.

Vi betalar extra för det. Kallas dragväg. Vi slipper problemet att andra slänger grejer i den. Och på köpet entrén ser bättre ut utan soptunnor som dekoration.

I Göteborg får villaägare en lapp i brevlådan med regler, bland annat snöskottning av trottoarer och sikttriangeln. Så det förekommer.

Så vad gör du med soporna sen efter att du argumenterat ner nån stackars receptionist?

Kolla istället vad du har för skyldigheter för att tjänsten ska kunna utföras. Om du inte skottar eller sandar är det väl du som tror att det är sommar året runt?
