Problem with snow cleaning of the road
The kommun makes the homeowner responsible for clearing snow from the sidewalks. And then hires the cheapest of cheap snow removal companies... who put all of the snow on the sidewalk... And then they charge you for not keeping the sidewalks clear. That's what you get when price is the only thing you look at.
The snow blocks in front of your driveway is called "plogvall" in Swedish. It is a good word to know as a homeowner in Sweden.F Farooq skrev:
I found the tone here a bit harsh, its not obvious what a vägförening is for someone who moved here (just an assumption based on the english)
Since you own your property you are a part of the vägförening, whether you like it or not. You have to pay what the vägförening has decided.
They will have a meeting every year and its normally (?) simple majority and very poor
attendance so its fairly easy to take control over (by vote or just get active as a board member) if you and a few neighbours are unhappy.
You can have your driveway showeled by hand by dozens of guys at the first snow every year if you want, but that might of course be a bit more expensive...

The correct way to fix this is to go to the Annual meeting and suggest a raise of the fees so that you can afford better snow removal services, and hope that the majority agrees.
Even better if you send in an official suggestion beforehand.

So maybe You should start up that income again as there nowadays is no competition but still a need for the service?B b8q skrev:

You simply have to pay, like others have said. And it's very common that they do the snow cleaning in this manner, leaving it to each home owner to take care of the driveway. This is in order to keep the costs down. It probably unreasonable to expect every home owner to clear his section of the road, and it's not realistic to ask the tractor with a fixed blade (which is commonly employed) to manouver around each driveway where vehicles might be parked, so this is a common compromise where each home owner is expected to clean each plot buy themselves.F Farooq skrev:
If you live in an area where there is usually a lot of snowfall each year then you should invest a few thousand in a "snöslunga" which takes care of the problem in a comfortable way. Otherwise for the odd snowfall a shovel will do.
One other "nice" thing in Sweden.
By law a house owner need within 12 hours to clear the sidewalk from snow and sprinkle sand on the ice, outside your yard. Even if the yard doesn't border to the sidewalk, if it is within (4 m?). This is the rule of most towns.
There are no excuses if you are on vacation for a week or so. Then you need to have someone else to do it.
Do never buy a house with a yard next to a or close to a sidewalk! We did once learn our lesson the hard way. Never ever again!

As mentioned before. We a long time ago lived in a town where they hired a snow clearer who had a tractor with a hydraulic dozer blade, enabling the blade to be angled outwards, when passing driveways. Wounderful! No snow walls.A Anders_Nilsson skrev:You simply have to pay, like others have said. Hej Members,
I have gone through all answers and such a wonderful feeling that there are lot of people to help me in this way and give me extra information needed. Thanks for your answers. For me it is all new and i am in learning phase because moved to villa first time 2 years ago. so quite a lot of new learnings. May be was a bit frustrated also as you need to clear big snow blocks at 00:00 before going out. ser ut att jag måste att investera lite mer på verktyg nu. som jag har bara Snöskyfflar så det är bra att köpa snöslunga är nästan i list och jobba lite extra på driveway också. kommer att diskutera med förening igen hur de kan fixa problemet.

On sidewalks you can be held responsible if someone slips and hurt himself, if you didn't do the anti-slip of the sidewalk, properly with sand. We earlier lived in that stressful mode, having to clear the towns sidewalks.
So the best option is to make sure it always is at least 50cm deep snow on the sidewalk to make sure no pedestrians ever set their fot on the sidewalk. Has worked well for me the last 12y.Magnus Filip skrev:
My kommun doesnt care.
What 98% of home owners i the south of Sweden miss; you’re really unkind to the mail man/woman and the one delivering the newspaper if you do not clear in front of your mailbox and driveway.
I delivered newpapers a couple of seasons up in Luleå. After heavy snow and/or due to a%%holes above, the delivery could take 5 hours instead of 3 since you had to exit the car many, many times.
I’ve got (pre-printed) “Thank you for keeping your driveway clean and accessible” from the postman on two occasions.
