Another option I've heard about (but this might be an urban myth) is to pour potato flour "potatismjöl" in the crack between vagnstycke and plansteg. The idea is that the fine ground powder will find it's way into all voids and dampen the movements causing the sound.

As I understand, the recommendation is to use this triangle profile I am attaching in the picture, between the plansteg and the long wood piece along the stairs. This I will do on the left side, if the problem does not get solved by tightening the screws on the right side. I started to hope again.

Ha! I would try anything just not to hear this! I think that a solution like this might work for a mild problem, but this stairs is a piece of... In a country with no earthquakes, I feel multiple per day.
