Hej,

Unfortunately i am going to have to write in english since my written swedish as that of a 5 year old but anyone that cares to reply can do so in swedish :-)

We are rennovating a house we purchased and all is going quite well. The house is old, 1900's old.

LAst month we started on the bathroom downstairs which looks to be an extension to the original house but we dont know when it was added.

What we did find out was that on two of the walls they had used asbest eternit, i guess to protect the wooden wall behind it.

THis was removed, in error, by me. Luckily i am very much aware that old houses almost certainly contain asbest so i was wearing a mask and had sealed the room

Now we want to move the golvbrun so we hired out a jackhammer and started ripping up part of the floor.

I quickly stopped when i noticed an unknown material....

The floor, despite being 1 meter from ground level, has no crawl space. It is instead filled with large stones and sand. On top of this is about 10 - 15 cm of betong and on top of this about 1.5 cm of unknown stuff.

It looks a bit like gipps (plaster board) in that it is white and quite course. It then has areas of cloudy blue...like someone has mixed blue ink with it but not mixed it in fully. Finally i can see some fibers where i have broken it up.

I have no idea what this is. Looks to me like flytspackel but made from god knows what..

Any ideas?

If you post a picture it would help a lot to determine what material you have.

Oh
its posted the same pictire a few times..its cause im using a tablet rather than a pc

SO the picture shows a small chunk of the stuff. It is the right way up meaning top side in the picture is top side as i took the material up.

ON the topside it is glue used as a adhesive for a plastic floor that was on it

Hej Nrd, välkommen till Bygga Hus! (Welcome to Bygga Hus)

As I understand that you have no problems reading Swedish here is my interpretation:

Det tunna skikt som ligger ovanför betongplattan ("unknown stuff") är så kallat flytspackel.
Det används i badrum för att bygga upp rätt fall mot golvbrunnen,
och är ofta fiberförstärkt. Det är dessa fibrer du ser.

Att det skulle vara asbest är mycket otroligt.

Krilleman
Asbest förekommer dock oftast (det finns alltid undantag) i fog och fix vid gammalt kakel/klinker montage.

Hello chaps,

thanks for your replies, it is very much appreciated.

Have to be honest that i only know of asbest in betong so when i saw it in this white stuff i was a bit confused.

We are going to speak to an asbest removal company that we have had dealings with in the past and hear their opinion though i am fairly sure (and hopeful) they will echo your comments above.

Thanks once again guys
