Unfortunately, the risk is not insignificant that this type of "handyman" can become quite unpleasant if you don't pay. I would think that you have to choose to take the fight all the way through the police and not pay a penny, or pay 12000 and see it as tuition money.

If they actually agreed on 1200/m, that price applies even if it's unreasonable. But then it's up to the craftsman to show some form of proof of the agreement. But the way this job looks, the craftsman might rather be liable for damages. Don't pay a dime!
Yep, if they agreed on that, it hasn't been understood. The relative first thought it was 1200 for the entire side (which might be low indeed, but I have no idea at all).

Correction of my information was apparently that they said 1200 per two meters...but I can't figure out the math regardless.

Yes, we've been considering those thoughts for tomorrow. If they become threatening/unpleasant, I'll have to find a way out of it (likely pay).

The approach will be to explain that there's been a misunderstanding in the smoothest English. And that the relative doesn't have much to spend. And if they start talking about the enormous value of the material, I'll offer to take it down so they can take it with them. The protective plastic is even still on...

But as you said. Tricky situation.

Do people still fall for this, despite all the warnings and gathered experiences? :surprised:
And 1200 per m wasn't even cheap!
Yes, unfortunately, I don't think the relative has kept up with so many warnings. And they called me only when the price went from 1200 to 12000 when they were finished...

It's been a bit difficult to get the whole story straight as the versions from the "craftsman" and the relative haven't completely aligned.
He said they agreed on 1200 per 2m...

If they become threatening, call the police at the slightest hint of a threat. Get to safety and alert.

Yes, it's probably good to be prepared for the worst, thanks for the tips!

That was the damnedest thing!
A deal is a deal, but to pay for that, no way.
Is there anyone nearby who can help speak up?

Can't even understand how one can consider this price, 12,000 SEK for 6 meters. Plus, one should always take references before letting someone do anything on their house.

A gutter costs 179 SEK for 3 meters at Bauhaus. I've installed gutters myself and it's pretty easy.

The work in the pictures looks like it was done by a 5-year-old.

It has been a bit difficult to sort out the whole story since the versions from the “craftsman” and the relative haven't completely matched.
he said they had agreed 1200 per 2m…
Is there any written contract for the work with the price specified? Are those who performed it a company?
Sounds like you can report to the police regardless and also contact the tax agency, if there is no agreement then it’s just two random guys demanding money for nothing...

Unfortunately, these guys probably belong to the type who would tear down their work if not paid, but that would probably be considered a good deed.

Update, the meeting never happened. They didn't show up and haven't been in contact. Either they realized they wouldn't get any significant money or they simply weren't interested in continuing the discussion with me.

Unclear if there will be any continuation of the matter…

no no no agreements "of course". And anyway, the math didn't add up.
We are considering reporting it to the police.

There's a risk they might show up unannounced and threaten... Filing a police report probably won't yield anything since it's unclear what the crime is (it's not illegal to be ignorant) and you probably don't have any leads to go on (social security number, unique name, company name, etc.)?

Not having any leads as a private individual is not a reason to refrain from reporting.
