Hello everyone!
We are building a house in northern Sweden and are strongly considering mechanically polished concrete as the flooring material throughout the house — including the kitchen and bathroom. We have underfloor heating throughout the house so cold weather is not a problem.
What I specifically want to know is:
— How does it hold up over time? How does the floor look after 2–3 years?— Does it scratch easily? We have a dog and children so it is important— In the bathroom/shower — does the concrete absorb water if it sits still for a while?— Does it need to be sealed regularly? I understand that mechanically polished concrete (unlike "grind and seal") should not need to be resealed — is that correct?— Would you redo it, or would you have chosen something else?
We really don't want a floor that requires a lot of maintenance. That's exactly why we're looking at mechanically polished concrete — that it should be maintenance-free once it's done.
