From what I understand, sawmills have a shortage of raw materials as they haven't raised timber prices for forest owners, pocketing all the profits themselves when international prices soared. Now, more and more forest owners are stopping logging, which sawmills compensate for by raising the price of sawn timber (instead of increasing purchase prices).

As a forest owner, it's been preferable to sell for export over the past six months/year. 'Giving away' or selling prime raw material at the current list prices is unthinkable for me, at least.
