I did a simple comparison before today's purchase for the chicken coop.A andhak1 said:
Pressure-treated 45x45:
- Byggmax 9.95 SEK/m
- Beijer Bygg 12.76 SEK/m
- GS bygg 10.95 SEK/m
Pressure-treated 45x70:
- Byggmax 16.95 SEK/m
- Beijer Bygg 19.13 SEK/m
- GS bygg 16.25 SEK/m
So there aren't huge differences, but Beijer is indeed the worst. And note, I don't have any discounts at any of them.
Walked into the nearest XL-Bygg and presented the renovation plans "upstairs" to the salespeople. A construction account with the same discount as professional craftsmen was arranged in no time. Ultimately, basically the same price as the discount chains, but much more professional knowledge in the walls.
Some purchases are still made at Bauhaus and K-rauta, mostly when passing by.
Another favorite is ByggGrossen in Uppsala.

Sure, Beijer is higher but there is a big difference in quality when compared to Byggmax, I have no experience with GS. I’m happy to pay for quality and as mentioned, Beijer often gives good discounts.KnockOnWood said:

but lumber has become much more expensive in the last 1-2 years.
when I built the garage, 2"6 cost 22:- now it costs 28:-
I might build a sawmill =)

Hornbach in Botkyrka has unfortunately deteriorated. Disorganized and poor service. Incompetent staff. So it will be Bauhaus and Byggmax going forward. They're not better in terms of competence but at least they try to provide service.
Just yesterday I compared insulation between 2 different Byggmax stores, 32:- in one and 25:- in the other... that's 28% more expensive in one... quite a lot...

Above all, the lumber is really bad. I'm completely fed up with it. Otherwise, it's my go-to store when I need to shop for something quickly. But, I no longer buy a piece of wood there (only standard sheets, MDF, and OSB). I buy lumber at Woody Huddinge or XL bygg Nacka.F Frågan said:
I have built with loose timber myself and here we have XL-bygg, Beijers, Byggmax, and Jem & Fix.
I don't think there's much difference in quality (or price, at least not between Byggmax and XL) among the first three mentioned. You have to sort through the piles equally much at all of them. Jem & Fix here is a joke, while Byggmax is really good, but almost always more expensive than before I chose the location... Does the store buy timber itself?
Anyway, I'm very pleased with Byggmax. The only store I like better is Hornbach, but it's twenty miles away.

Sounds like we're near each other? But if so, you forgot BauhausK Kallebo said:I have built timber frame myself and here we have XL-bygg, Beijers, byggmax, and jem fix.

In any case, when I'm building something I care about, I go with XL-bygg, if I don't care, it becomes Byggmax, though never been disappointed!
Hmm. Quite possible, but Bauhaus is on the other side of the municipal boundary so I don't count it. Unfortunately, I mostly have negative experiences with Bauhaus, then I think Hornbach is better even if it's another few miles away.Lexington said:
