Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of straight and dry wood that doesn't warp? I'm possibly going to frame a floor, and the last thing I want is for it to start moving more than necessary. Are there finer quality classes with lower moisture contents or how does it work? Nivell seems to have some kind of special beams that are absolutely straight but they cost more than drugs.

The lumber should have been bundled into smaller packages, then part of the problem would have been avoided, I think.
Or does it create too little stability in the stack so everything twists?
It would have been very practical if you need a smaller but not too small amount of lumber.
Of course, that also incurs an additional cost, but it shouldn't be excessively large.

At the sawmill where I shop (unfortunately, they don't normally sell to private individuals), they have very few bundles open, and they open a bundle, take out the timber I need, and then the bundles are packed again. If I call in advance and order, everything is ready and bundled for me. So, individual studs/boards I buy at the building supply store. But even what is purchased from the sawmill can warp and twist if you don't sort and sticker what's left over after building, so I now rarely buy more than I use and often let the scraps become firewood.

Or as my father-in-law says: Wood is a living material, so it's allowed to be a little crooked in places.
The fact is that the pursuit of "dead straight" wood sometimes seems a bit excessive. Why should a regular stud in a wall be as straight as a ruler?

Surely there isn't any "real" carpenter who goes out of their way to find super straight wood for a build? :)

I want to say that it completely depends on where the rule is located and what function it has.

I have cared zero about the straightness of all the 45x45 that I have cross-braced the frame with, both outside and inside, it becomes (sufficiently) straight automatically when it's fully nailed.

But I can't build interior walls out of bananas, it looks so damn bad afterward when you place a bookshelf against the wall. :P

If you are going to build a bathroom, it is not possible if the studs are not perfectly straight. Otherwise, you will have problems when tiling.

I get frustrated when I read. Is it too much to ask for straight lumber that isn't beveled? I'm not asking for furniture quality, but I don't want pieces with bark (contains parasites) and the stud should be straight enough to attach drywall. Or should we jigsaw each drywall sheet to follow the banana? Note that I'm not talking about a 1 cm warp in one direction on a wall stud.

Moreover: This is only about greed, nothing else. Don't think the prices will be lower because we consumers accept crap. It's just that certain trees are only good for pulpwood. Furthermore, the cost of the tree itself is only ONE part of what you pay for the stud at the lumberyard. Studs cost about 10 SEK per meter for 45x70 and 50 SEK for 45x170 C24 (checked at Hornbach) so I see no reason to accept crap. I'd rather pay an extra 2 SEK per meter. How much time do you save not having to brace the stud to make it fit?

Crooked can be acceptable in certain constructions, but I've received too many pieces that look like screws to be satisfied. Laying a roof on beams that twist means the roof won't be flat, and the sub-roof will be laid at an angle because the beam tilts 30-40 degrees at one end.

Moreover, the person loading them must see it when putting them on the truck, but they don't care about that either.

No, I want straight lumber if I'm going to pay for it and if I'm going to do anything other than burn it in the stove.

Yes, part of the main issue is that I pay exactly the same price per linear meter for completely perfect studs as for real junk.
Why should one have to pay full price for garbage?

I do understand that it’s a sliding scale, from perfect studs that almost should have been sorted to A-quality at the sawmill down to the last bit of junk. But studs that nearly wouldn’t be good enough for roof decking or formwork must surely be sorted out.

But the easiest thing is to let the customer sort, i.e., what cannot be sold stays. But when you have home delivery, I get angry about receiving junk; they should see and remove it before transport.

Even though that's part of the problem. i.e., people rummaging through the piles of lumber making it a complete mess. Eventually, all the boards become twisted. You must place the boards back as they were after you've taken what you want.

+1 on that. I've started buying from xlbygg instead; not a single piece of decking out of 250 linear meters so far. Really satisfied!

Was at the local sawmill last week and bought 20 meters of 45x95. Quickly loaded it onto the trailer, paid, and headed home. When I got home, I realized I had bought glulam!!! I quickly called down and asked what it costs compared to "regular" 45x95 and got the answer: it's the same price.

The boards have now been lying on the trailer for almost a week and are still perfectly straight!!!

Sometimes you get pleasantly surprised!!!

Basically agree. However, Byggmax can sometimes have received a new shipment where most of it is OK. The unfortunate part is when you show up and only Fusilli is left because Byggmax refuses to bring in new wood until they have sold all the old junk. Might as well do as whork and go somewhere else.
