Hello,
I am planning to build a shelf for storing everything that needs to be stored in a basement; bags, summer/winter clothes in SmartStore boxes.
The length will be 2.5m and about 1m deep. I am thinking of making it with 45x70 studs and plywood with a total of 6 posts.
Will this work or will the shelves sag?
Thanks for the input!

If plywood is going to span 2.5m, there will definitely be sagging.J Jef said:Hello,

6 posts on a shelf likely means one in each corner and two in the middle. Depending on the thickness of the plywood and the weight of the load, there might be issues with sagging. Using formply instead of regular plywood could probably reduce the problem (again depending on the load). Otherwise, you can place two beams across the posts so that the board rests on them along the entire long side, making it significantly harder to bend down.

I forgot to mention, you're right about the posts and then I plan to make a frame for each shelf either with 45x70 or 45x45 screwed into the posts and lay plywood on it.

Isn't the space under the lowest shelf very difficult to clean?
When I've built new shelves in the basement (more will be needed), I've focused on hanging everything on the wall, keeping the entire floor area free.
