Seal cavity in the ceiling after exposing beams

Haven't you considered buying faux beams in polystyrene instead?

No, that's far from my taste with that kind of thing. Now I actually have real, nice beams, and I like the extra centimeters in height that the planing gave, so I think I'll stick to that.

But if you have any good ideas on how to close the specified cavity, they are gladly received.

Leaning towards Leca and masonry. How I'll handle the sealing of the trossbotten remains to be seen.

Exactly, the walls are bricked. Plastered with lime mortar I would guess. I've never done any brickwork so wood and netting certainly sounds easier. On the other hand, it feels more "authentic" with brickwork.

I've also thought about cladding with raw planks between the beams, but since the planks looked quite nice and also have a bit of a beautiful patina, it would be nice to have them visible and just whitewash or something similar.

I was planning to wait with the upper floor but possibly it might be an idea to go up and dig out the trossbotten from above (windproof paper, sand, lime) and then insulate with linen wool. It's just a very dusty job with many bags that need to come down.

What do you think about notching the gaps in the ceiling from underneath and then sanding? Shouldn't it hold tight?

Without having personal experience, I've heard of many who have tried to seal ceilings but haven't succeeded. It's probably (unless you have a beautiful floor above to preserve) easiest to dig out, lay paper, and insulate with linen boards. Kolstybb in the mix doesn't sound very pleasant...

Wood and plastering on top should work fine, maybe put a paper strip over the seam and fill before you wallpaper. The wood can move, but it's such a small piece and if the plaster layer is attached preferably to a reed mat and is quite thick, it should be safe... Make sure to use lime plaster...

Good thing you don't want plastic beams à la pizzeria...
