Hi.
We tore down our old thick woven wallpaper in the living room. And underneath it on the drywall in various places, different things are written with markers and pens. I learned as an electrician that it's a big no-no because it can show through over time. Now, it was quite a thick and dark woven wallpaper, so there wasn't much risk, but now it will be replaced with a more modern, lighter, and thinner wallpaper, with a layer of white paint first to prevent anything from showing through. The question is if that's enough, or could the color still bleed through even 40 years later? And if so, how do I best avoid it?
Lastly, I wonder if anyone has any idea what 26% might stand for? Right now, I'm inclined to think it was the alcohol content in the morning coffee that day, considering how they've plastered...

  • Numbers written with ink on a plaster wall: "26%" and "30-1-80", next to exposed electrical wiring.
Apply a stain-blocking paint, regular wall paint is useless if it bleeds through.

Solvent-based sealing primer.
As Marcus writes, felt-tip and ink pens are a no-no. I myself made the mistake of using a red ink pen under a wet room wallpaper. After a few years, every guide line and note was visible :(

26% was the increase in the gold price that day.

Editing: Or if it was the decrease... January 1980 was eventful in any case:
