revive my old thread again, to once more try to find a good solution to my problem.

have checked various sites where you can calculate glulam beams, but there are none that offer suggestions for the type of work I need to have done. are there more sites?

A constructor/civil engineer is the right person. It's not just about the dimensioning of a beam, but you also have to ensure that the support can handle the force.

That's correct, but if you want to do some calculations yourself:)

For all the ones I have found that involve openings, they are all on the ground floor, mine concerns the upper floor, but I will try to call the municipality so they can come and check it out.

Then how to find one is another question :( I'm googling but can't find anyone near our municipality.

Aha, then unfortunately I might not be able to help you much. I can calculate forces though, maybe we should at least start there?

Have you calculated what force the glulam beam must withstand?

No, I'm really, really bad at math. I have no idea how to calculate that.

A small update, the wall is not load-bearing even though it is. :)

Had a carpenter at home whom we might choose. He wanted to build braces further down on the rafters. Since the wall does not bear all the weight.

He wanted about 6000kr with rot.
