Buying construction materials abroad
What if you don't want an IKEA kitchen??
There are really stylish kitchens being built in Poland!
Are they reasonably priced and is it like in Sweden, where the parts are made to order so you have to go twice for a kitchen?
Best regards,
Thorsten

We had loosely planned a shopping trip to Poland over the Christmas holidays, but as usual, we are running late. When I checked the ferries from Nynäshamn, I realized that you either arrive at noon and go home at 6:00 PM with the returning ferry, or wait to go home two days later. Neither timing suits us very well; the plan was to stay 1 night in Poland and two nights on the ferry.
So one alternative is to go to Karlskrona (I haven't checked the ferry schedules there) or to go to another country.
Has anyone been to Estonia for shopping, or is Poland the best option?
We will be driving down in a regular car, so we have limited space, and what we want to buy is hansgrohe faucets + tile adhesive and sealing membrane.

A little help from Karlskrona: http://www7.stenaline.se/servlet/se...in?data.language.id=1&data.node.id=18080#sollentuna said:
THANKS! I've checked a bit more and it seems there are no ferries that fit our schedule during the interim days, so we'll have to wait a few weeks. The cheapest option right now seems to be a weekend in Poland from Nynäs.
You depart at 6:00 PM on Friday evening and then head back at 6:00 PM on Sunday evening. This gives you 1.5 days in Poland and you stay overnight on the boat. The cost is about 2000 for two people, including the car and an upgrade to a two-bed cabin with a window.
I've seen that it's cheaper to travel from Karlskrona and you get more time in Poland since the boat trip isn't as long, but for us, it means a 500 km drive each way as well.
But doesn't anyone have any comments about any of the Baltic countries??

Way too little time if you don't know where everything is.
No longer mandatory, but bring it anyway. Don't forget the green card for the car.
Hi!
We are renovating our house and are planning to go to Poland
to buy building materials, primarily timber. For example,
paneling to put on the ceiling and oak to build a staircase with.
We are also planning to build a terrace in larch wood.
Does anyone know where to find this type
of timber? Is it available at Praktiker or Castorama?
Or should we look somewhere else?
Best regards, ByggFia.

Then they have changed since the summer. I have needed to show the green card at the ferry both times I drove to Poland. You get the green card from your insurance company. Don't forget to specify the driver if it is not the same as the car owner.
Best regards,
David

OK, apparently they have abolished the requirement for the green card.
Original registration certificate for both the car and trailer is required.
The passport must be valid for at least 6 months to be accepted. This probably also means that the children should also be registered or have their own passports.

I called my insurance company regarding electronic lock systems, and what happens is that the deductible becomes higher if you're without one, you won't lose the compensation.
Regarding the green card, it's not required according to the laws within the EU, but the Polish customs ASKED for it during our transit. So to be sure, it's just as well to bring it with you since it doesn't cost anything either...

Hello
There is a lot of money to be made just on an Ikea kitchen http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stor...918&langId=-11&parentCats=10110*10652
This cabinet is about 700 SEK cheaper in Poland.
I find it very strange that a Swedish-made product (according to Ikea's seller) is cheaper abroad than here.
Is it so, Kamprad, that we Swedes with high wages should sponsor low-wage countries so they can maintain their low wages and then move the production with the justification that it is cheaper to manufacture abroad?

I really agree with you Inger P.!
Ingvar Kamprad seemed to be an enterprising person with warmth and care, prioritizing service and consideration for the consumer.
Moreover, he sets an excellent example through healthy and simple living habits, not a flashy individual with diva-like behaviors.
Go Kamprad!
P.S. That it's more expensive in Sweden possibly can't have anything to do with the sky-high personnel costs, taxes, VAT...

Kamprad has opened a lot of IKEA stores in Sweden, which over many years have brought in hundreds of millions to Sweden, created countless job opportunities and much more tax to the state (=public resources) than all of us here in the forum pay together over our entire lifetime.fooney said:
Now I'm a bit curious fooney: It would be very interesting to know how you came to the conclusion that this sinks Sweden...???
