Old and charming or old and scary?
Hi!
I’m considering buying this old house, but I’m a bit concerned about the roof. As you can see in the photos, the roofline/ridge doesn’t look completely straight and seems to sag slightly, especially on one side.
There are also some cracks/tears in the wallpaper inside, which made me wonder whether this could be related to movement in the structure.
Does this look like fairly normal movement/settlement for an old house, or would you consider the sagging roof/ridge a serious red flag?

Jag tycker inte det ser ut som total katastrof.
Köper du huset bör du lägga på ett nytt tak, så kommer det klara sig länge till. Taket ser nämligen ut att vara av eternit, och är nog inte helt 100 tätt längre.
Att taknocken på båda sidor om skorstenen lutar lite ut mot gavlarna kan bero på att grunden har satt sig pga dåligt underarbete, men det var sannolikt länge sedan och lär inte bli så mycket värre precis just nu. Det kan också bero på att bottensyllarna börjar bli dåliga och helt enkelt tryckts ihop av husets vikt.
I vilket fall så går det att fixa, kanske t o m av dig själv om du är normalhändig och villig att lära dig samt hugga i och jobba.
Kåken har stått upp i mer än 100 år, och lär inte rasa ihop inom överskådlig framtid!
Kortversionen: köp huset om priset är rätt och lägg på ett plåttak (inte det billigaste taket, men går lätt att lägga och adderar ingen extra tyngd). Sedan har du gott om tid att undersöka huset noga och söka kunskap om hur du går vidare!

The walls are probably masonite covered over a soft board, paper off, fill holes, or replace masonite. Remove totally if fitting new insulation, its a job but easy to do. Ceiling can be made good by using panels like the ones we used from byggmaxI IrynaN skrev:
