I have a question regarding the material Träullit (wood wool board, reed mat, etc.)
I live in a house with a basement from 1946. After tearing down the Träullit from one of the exterior walls, water has leaked into the basement after a heavy rainstorm during an otherwise extremely dry summer. With only this information at hand, could one assume that the reason for the water leaking into the basement is due to the removal of the Träullit? Can Träullit really prevent a large amount of water from penetrating through the basement wall and instead be absorbed by the wood wool?
I understand that this material can account for the uptake and release of moisture without damaging it. But now it concerns rainwater. I would be extremely grateful for an answer.

Träulliten is supposed to function as insulation on the inside. It's hard to see how it could stop rainwater. It's only wood shavings mixed with cement.
The material breathes, so it works well in basements, as it is often a humid environment. But to stop rainwater.. no.

Must depend on how large the amounts are when you say rainwater. When I tore up in the basement, a leaking water pipe was discovered that had probably leaked for a long time and on the outside of the träullit nothing of this leak was visible. However, it was visible on the träullit and on the concrete hollow block. So I can very well imagine that the träullit concealed the rainwater for you, but you should have noticed it on the träullit as it was very much weakened for me.
