Hello!
I am in the process of replacing the ceiling in an older house, built around 1900. It has been renovated several times over the years. I found this grayish insulation, tried googling, and it seems to resemble träullit. But I am unsure, does anyone know?

Sincerely,
Erik

  • Close-up of gray insulation in a ceiling, possibly wood wool, exposed in an old house during renovation.

That's it.

Wood wool is crap, you can't attach anything to it. It's not uncommon for it to be laid first and then cast on top, if there's concrete above, so trying to remove everything is probably out of the question. How thick is it? You can attach a joist to the concrete above with long screws, which the new ceiling can be attached to.

There was an old frame for the woven ceiling that I attached the beams to (träullit behind the insulation visible in the picture).
Thanks for the advice!

  • Wooden ceiling frame with insulation visible in a partially renovated room, ladder and tools on the floor, and a light hanging from the ceiling.
Looks good, as well as space for electrical wiring between the studs.
