Good evening!

I need some opinions on how high I should mount the wind deflector in the ridge roof of our new construction. Currently, I've gone up 60cm as shown in the picture (the measurements aren't quite accurate but give an indication). Is that enough, or do I need to go even higher with the air gap? We have 38 degrees outside and 27 inside, so I probably don't need to run the deflector all the way up, but the question is whether 60cm is sufficient as I've mounted it so far? Does the wind usually blow and stir in the cellulose, or is this fully adequate?

Thanks in advance!

We usually go half a sheet extra if you use the regular corrugated cardboard wind deflectors.

Is it possible to lay out loose-fill insulation in that way, or will it fill up against the wind deflector regardless?

It seems like you have hands-on involvement in the construction. In your position, I would try to set 100-120 cm, and fill with loose-fill insulation almost up to there, so that there's a small flat surface before the slope goes up. But I haven't worked with loose-fill insulation, so there might be better tips :)

Yes, it works well to use loose fill in this way. We usually place some boards between the rafters on edge at about 1200cc so that the loose fill doesn't slide too much.

Smart! And at the bottom where the plan indicates 11 degrees "air wedge" to nowhere, that is partially filled, and with the additional half wind deflector, there will be a margin over the insulation?

Yes

Thanks for the quick reply!
Then it will be necessary to extend the deflector a bit. We make our own deflectors in masonite, but in hindsight, I feel a bit silly for not just going with the ready-made solutions you mention... 😆

Masonite is great👍
