Which machine to use to "mill" away some brick wall?
Hello,
My wife and I have recently bought a house. We are moving in on August 15th, where almost everything needs to be completely renovated. One of the first things I want to do is widen the opening between the dining room and the living room.
The wall is made of brick and the opening is about 800mm wide. The wall is load-bearing BUT where the current opening is, there used to be a window that was about 1400mm wide. What I now want to do is open it up to 1400mm in width. You can probably see in the picture where the window boundary is.
What machine should I rent, and what should I keep in mind?
Thank you A THOUSAND times for this wonderfully informative forum.

You can cut brick with an angle grinder with a stone disc. Make cuts from each side. Keep in mind that it creates a lot of dust, so use a machine that can be connected to a vacuum cleaner. The stones that the window is bricked up with can be knocked in with a sledgehammer. Place a plywood sheet underneath to protect the floor (if it is to be retained).
Ahh, thank you so much for the help. So, put on the mask, goggles, and vacuum cleaner then...
Thanks again!!

Hmm... As I see it in the picture, you probably won't need to cut anything since there is no joint where it has been patched up.... Just take it easy when you tap the last stone, there should possibly be 2-3 repetitions there... But ignore the nonsense with the angle grinder, it's unnecessary and dusty.
Agree. Just knock down stone by stone and you (almost) avoid the dust!
Alright, then it will have to be chisel and hammer on the upper part. Unfortunately, it will have to be an angle grinder on the lower part after I discovered that the window didn't go all the way down to the floor.
