I am going to place my mangle on a table and I don't want the table to collapse. Can anyone estimate the weight of an aged 55 cm wide cast iron mangle?
So far, I haven't been able to attach a picture. If I don't succeed, let me inform you that it is painted green.

I've been considering disassembling it to remove gunk from dust and grease, but I have a feeling that some parts are under tension. When disassembling, I imagine something might come loose and punch a hole in the ceiling or in me. Besides, it has to be reassembled!

  • A vintage 55 cm wide green-painted cast iron mangle on a wooden board, positioned on the floor beside boxes labeled "Premium Bananas.
Weigh it on a bathroom scale.

If you can't get it onto a bathroom scale, do as you do with pets:
First, weigh yourself without the mangle.
Then, weigh yourself holding the mangle.
Subtract.
If the scale can't handle you plus the mangle, let a smaller person do it.

It's probably best to go with your gut feeling in this case. If you were to find out that the mangel weighs, for example, 52kg, how would you know if your table can handle it? If the table can support sitting on, it can handle the mangel too.

... that one probably mangles very nicely ... but who cranks?

Thank you for the reply.
I can't lift the mangel.

The mangle appears to be about the same size as a banana box. A banana box filled with homogeneous cast iron weighs about 430 kg (if I've calculated correctly). If we assume that the mangle fills the box's volume to somewhere between one-sixth to one-eighth, we end up in the range of 53-72 kg. So, as Peter2400 wrote above, if the table holds for sitting, it will hold for the mangle!

Unqualified guess: 25 kilograms.

This one weighs 14 kg :)

It certainly weighs 60-70 kg. Can't be compared to a modern thing.
But on the other hand, I don't really understand what you need that information for. You probably don't know what a table can support in terms of weight/load.

Currently, there is a fact sheet on Tradera for a similar mangle. It is said to weigh 30 kg.

Then you probably have to compensate for the fact that it consists of 75% wood and not cast iron?
