I am renovating the kitchen/living room with an open floor plan on the 2nd floor, with an attic above.
I have three questions. The carpenter has been working a bit faster than I would have liked, which might sound macabre to have a problem with. But he might have made mistakes.
What happened is that the carpenter tore down a pantry and therefore left a "hole" in the wall where there is previously a wall further into the room that blocks much of the slanted ceiling/wall.
The carpenter then built a new wall in line with the walls on the sides to achieve an even wall throughout the room.
The new wall is insulated, OSB gypsum. He has also plastered the ceiling. The idea is that the walls will also be plastered later.
I wonder
1. The carpenter left the ventilation hatch open inside the new wall. Right or wrong?
2. Should plastic/vapor barrier be installed behind all gypsum? Even if I'm not doing all the rooms now. The idea is to insulate the attic in the future, which today only has 150-200mm sawdust.
3. How should I deal with the carpenter who has already plastered the ceiling and built the wall? If he has done wrong, can I demand that he covers the time to redo and do it right? Or is it me who has to bite the bullet and bear the cost of taking it down and putting it back up with a vapor barrier/sealed vent hatch?
