Has anyone installed waterborne underfloor heating with a 16mm hose on an existing floor? I was thinking about using a batten system on top, and in my quiet mind, I thought the smoothest and cheapest way would be to slice a chipboard into 20cm wide pieces and make a type of batten system. That was until I discovered that chipboard now only comes in 12mm sheets?! How can that be? ...unless you want flooring chipboard, but there's no point in that when you have to cut away the tongue (after first paying extra for it).
Any tips?

I had 17mm tubing but used regular outer panel 22x120mm instead of stripped particle board, I remember it cost around 9 SEK/m. I laid this throughout the house (190sqm) on the existing subfloor. With 3cm between the boards, the tubing centers are 30cm apart. I know many others here have done the same way.
You can lay tracked chipboard floating on top of your existing subfloor. A slightly cheaper and more convenient option is to instead lay tracked foam on the existing floor, but then you lose an additional 8mm (a total of 30mm) of ceiling height. I have used both systems and they both work excellently.
