I am in the process of decorating an attic and will build a niche in a wall for placing a digital box/DVD player etc. The idea is to build this niche using 16 or 19mm MDF and the question is how to attach this to surrounding walls that are covered with OSB+gypsum. The niche with the surrounding wall is intended to be painted with wood paint, and the idea is that it should not be noticeable that it is different; rather, the important thing is to make a transition that does not "stand out."
Anyone with some good tips?
Thanks in advance!

Okay, haven't done anything like that but just to start a discussion... I assume you're making the niche like a box that you insert into the wall? And you want it completely smooth around the edge? Can't you use metal corner protectors, like for outer drywall corners, around the edge and fill it in? But then you'll probably have to bevel the MDF around the edge on the inside to get it really even.
Yep, the niche is a box that is installed in the wall, exactly right. I don't know if we should make the edge invisible or if it would look nicer to make it marked but discreet, maybe it would just look silly to try to make it invisible.
I am attaching a picture of how it looks, the red line shows an example of how you could delimit the niche, the green another. Which variant do you think is best?
