I'm so tired.
Hired a carpenter to cover the stairs with Lundberg's stair renovation kit in oak.

The gap between the step and the stringer is now 3.5 to 4 mm on each side.
On Stepkit's website it says that a maximum gap of 1-2 mm is needed.
Lundberg stated over the phone that 2 mm is the maximum one should have.

3.5-4 mm may not sound like much, but it's quite noticeable. Sure, white acrylic caulk is supposed to disguise it a bit, but the joints are still quite thick.

Do I have to do everything myself, or what? Feels so damn depressing. The materials cost 10,000 and yet the carpenter can't maintain decent precision.

The question is, can I demand that the carpenter redo the job, or not?

Yes, there shouldn't be a 3-4 mm gap, it should be quite easy to make it completely tight or around 1mm gap. I don't know what can be expected, but 3-4 mm sounds like a lot to me too.

If you have the assembly instructions for the thing, it shouldn't be a problem to get the carpenter to redo it.... just show it to him in a nice way.... Otherwise, I can come and do the job...:) ALLFIX..... :)

Yes, now he has fixed it pretty well. Replaced the worst treads and fixed it without discussion. Feels good that it's sorted out and that I just had to say I wasn't satisfied. Sure, some steps could be better, but I'm quite pleased nevertheless.

One step I had to fix after he left today as he didn't center the tread, resulting in 0 mm gap at one end and 3-4 at the other. Strange!

Then today he managed to miss removing a carpet on the floor by the stairs and placed the riser on top of the carpet and wedged it!! :x He'll have to replace it tomorrow.

My advice is to specify the maximum mm gap when you order stair renovation.

One might think that it should be enough to follow the assembly instructions when the ladder is being assembled.
