Hello friends!

I would like to open up about 230cm in our attic space to build a bed niche for our daughter. To do this, I need to remove the vertical stud that supports one of the rafters.

The picture below is taken from inside the attic and shows the stud that I would like to remove. The vertical stud is 100x40 and the rafters are spaced about cc1200.

Attic interior showing a vertical stud supporting a rafter, with insulation on the wall. The stud is planned for removal to create a bed alcove.

My thought so far is to screw strong studs into the vertical studs that support the rafters on either side of the one I want to remove and ensure they stand on a solid foundation. After that, I'll prop up the rafter, remove the vertical stud, and instead place a horizontal glulam beam between the new studs to support the rafter that will be without its vertical stud.

How does that sound?

To assess if this is possible, a sectional drawing (with main dimensions) of the entire house is needed. Additionally, information about the snow load zone, the construction of the outer roof (including the dimensions of the trusses) and the construction of the attic floor (the dimensions and spacing of floor joists) are required. A few better detailed photos of the fastenings of the support legs at the top and bottom are also useful.
