Hi

I have a swivel wall mount as shown in the picture and a 32" TV that weighs ~4.5kg.
It will be mounted on a drywall, unknown if it's 1 or 2 layers of drywall or if it can be attached where there is a stud.
Is it foolish to even try, or can it hold with 2 mollys?

A black swivel wall mount for a flat-screen TV, with adjustable arms and multiple mounting holes.

I would primarily try to get 1 screw into a regla and then 3 Molly! Otherwise, 4 Molly.

How far out should the arm be able to extend with the screen on?
It's important to know what the lever moment will be.

Find out if it is single or double drywall! Put a small screwdriver into the wall and check!

Hit rules or Mollys will work well.
Just find out if it's single or double plasterboard to choose the correct screw length.

Measure and mark where you want the bracket, drill a hole. If you don't have a stud finder, first drill with a small 3mm drill bit to see if there is a stud behind. Then use a 9mm bit for M5 expansion. This will show if it's single or double drywall. Then buy at least M5 drywall anchors. It works well with four anchors; the weak point won't be the iron but rather the drywall breaking loose if there's a crack or a child hangs on the TV...

There are different lengths even within single or double expansion bolts. It is the plug itself that differs for E or D.

A good friend of mine placed his tripod on a thick chipboard to get several anchor points/distribute the weight over a larger area.

That was what I meant but maybe I was unclear.

Yes, because a screw and a plug are two different things. Like calling a pear an apple.

I was referring to molly screws where the plug and screw are in one.

The screws are regular M-screws, can be bought separately and used with the plug, sold together for convenience. The length of the screw can vary and should do so depending on the thickness of the subject to be attached. You wrote that the length of the screw depends on whether it's single or double drywall, when in fact it's the plug that is highly dependent on it. It's fine to take a screw from a single plug and put it in a double plug, as long as the plug has expanded somewhat at the back. Just let it go and realize it was a bit unclear post and was clarified later, nothing more than that.

It's fine to take a screw from a single plug and put it in a double plug, as long as the plug has expanded slightly on the back. Haha yes, that was a way to write a Wall of text and then say "let it go now" to the one you're writing to.
But anyway, I apologize to TS if they did not understand.
