Hi,

The old paneling is sparse today (see image).
I need a thicker paneling, 28mm, to make room for spotlights.
I'm planning to take down the existing paneling and put up a new one.

But how do I best attach the paneling? It's plaster, and above the plaster there is straw. Can I glue the paneling with PL400 and supports?

If the current glesen fits well, I would just put the new one on the old one.

it's 22mm and quite uneven. Can I glue a bunch of masonite pieces on this then? I need to get it to 28mm

What is your ceiling height? Are you dependent on it not being too low? If not, I would have placed the new sparse panel on the old one and placed masonite pieces between the new and the old to level it.

It's in an older part of the basement. It will be very low in the ceiling in that case. But the idea sounds smart. Is there anything lower than 22mm that you can choose then?

I would cut strips of plywood instead. But maybe someone else has an idea and can answer your original question.
