I have filled a cavity between the baseboard and the floor with foam sealant/building foam. This will be painted later, but what material should I use to achieve a hard, durable, smooth surface? Filler?

Thankful for your input.
Best regards, Niklas

  • Close-up of expanding foam used to fill a gap between baseboard and floor, with uneven texture. Paint and spackle are suggested for a smooth finish.
Hello!
I am looking for a solution to the same type of problem as you have but see that there are very few answers to the threads I have found with this type of problem. I have installed new attic hatches myself, one horizontal and one vertical, where the wall construction caused an issue and my question is how to plaster over the foam sealant in a good way.

Would probably cut away so there is at least 5-10mm to fill with e.g. Ardex A45 or A31

Just like above. Cut off and fill with a cement-based filler of some sort. The suggestions in the post above are good. Repair mortar also works.

Then you can use regular wall putty for a smooth surface.

Great, let's try that and keep our fingers crossed that we can avoid an overly wide and ugly cover strip.
Thanks for the tips
Stefan.
