have a 1½ story villa with a 64-square garage attached to one end. I'm eager to put a door so you can go out onto the garage roof. Build a nice decking and get the world's patio in the south direction, probably the nicest spot around the house...

But... today there are two windows - which have rotted and leaked water. I have filled them with silicone to buy some time. I thought about stapling construction plastic over them and tackling this in the spring...

But... Anticimex advised against this, and now the renovation inside the house is on hold...

The question is, should I just buy two windows and replace them, quick and easy, or should I be a bit forward-thinking and take the opportunity to switch to a patio door + a window?

Today, the second floor isn't even insulated, etc., so there's a long way to go until all plans are completed... what if everything goes wrong and we don't invest in two living spaces...
- On the other hand, one could go ahead and make a patio anyway...

But how would you have done it?

Do it right away and it will be done. Once you want to make the patio, the hardest part is already done (or what will seem very difficult when you have renovated and furnished the room that you now need to saw a wall in ;)).

Do it now. Building materials usually don't get cheaper over time and you sleep better knowing it's done properly.

Many people point out skanskabyggvaror.se for having good windows. Unfortunately, I interpreted it as them not having any matching doors. Or well, it's not that important, as long as the glass is the same size... but the doors had worse U value, which I guess all of them might have.

Is there another place that is well-recommended when searching for reversible windows?

then it hit me... if I now put in a new nice door and luxury stuff, will they withstand being in a cold attic or will they quickly fail?

and in a south-facing position where everything gets burned, should one use metal-clad objects then?

I would have installed the door right away! And of course, aluminum-clad exterior. Then you'll have a nice emergency exit in the future if you furnish the attic.

Door! Also works excellently when you renovate later, good for loading and unloading.
