We are planning to replace the front door you see in the picture (if I manage to include it...) with a window instead. The problem is...can this be done in an aesthetically pleasing way? Brick is probably out of the question since we don't have any spare bricks. We have an extension on the house that has clapboard siding - could we use that around/under the window?

Can this be done reasonably nicely or should we completely abandon our plans??

  • A brick house exterior with a wooden front door, flanked by two lamps, and a wooden ramp leading to the door. Bushes and ferns are visible nearby.
The problem is that it will probably always look like there has been (is) a door there, with an awning and everything. One way might be to replace it with a window the same size as the door.

We were planning to remove the skärmtak.

A window as large as the door... do you mean as tall?

Do you think the "frame" of bricks should be removed?

Remove the door & the window next to it and create a generous bay window with space for a reading chair ;)

Sounds nice, but then we'll be without a bathroom since the window next to it is the bathroom window... ::)

Sit in the bathtub, read and enjoy the view ;D
Let the door remain and keep the facade as it is.
Build again on the inside and do what you need to do there anyway........

A fixed window section as large as the door seems like the smoothest solution to me. Then you can keep the brick frame.

Then you can put that plastic film that corresponds to frosted glass on the lower part if it were in the bathroom.
