Hello,

I am going to build my garage with a ridge beam. After touring existing garages, I've changed my mind from 2 single doors to a double door.

The problem then naturally becomes the support for the ridge beam above the double door. A sufficiently large beam (wood or steel) could be designed to handle the point load from a post down from the ridge. But I'm thinking a truss as the gable might be more suitable. You may want to spread the load...

Does anyone have an example of such a solution? Or built and solved this in some excellent way. If you also have a window in the gable peak, you get a gold star ;)

To add, I already have the ridge beam and planks for the roof purlins...
The garage is 7.5 meters wide, and the door will be 5-5.5m.
The door is on the gable!

It will be a hefty roof truss for it but should not be a problem. You should probably consult a structural engineer to calculate a design as it is hardly standard. One option could be an additional beam over the gate, possibly in conjunction with the use of scissor trusses?

Something like this maybe? You need a bit of slope on the roof. The rafters help to stabilize.

A thin slender VKR pole with two garage doors supporting the ridge beam.
Easier to install doors.
