I'm planning to build a new retaining wall since the old one has worn out.
I plan to cast T-blocks.
The largest blocks will have these dimensions:
Height 2,400
Width 1,000
Foot 1,450 (with 350 in front of the outer side)
Thickness 170
I think I've got most of it figured out (including the workload this will be (maybe not))
The blocks will weigh slightly over 1,600 kg :wow:
I plan to cast on-site, starting with the middle block. Then continue with a block on each side.
Let the reinforcement go through the mold, so when I cast the next piece, I have the reinforcement to fasten to, and use the newly cast block as a mold stop to the side.
But what dimension do I need for the reinforcing mesh? Is 8 mm in diameter sufficient?
How much do I need to overlap the reinforcement for it to hold?
How much does it need to be tied?
Is one layer of reinforcement in the middle enough?
At the ends where there will be no new block, how far should the reinforcement be from the surface?
And where can I get reinforcement mesh at a reasonable price?
The largest cost aside from the cement seems to be the reinforcement (Cement... yep... Planning to mix myself
)

Have you checked what real L-supports cost? It sounds a little dangerous to tackle this. How high does the ground rise at the back of the support? The supports you buy are made and controlled for a certain ground pressure. I would assume that reinforcement and the quality of the concrete mean quite a lot. Now, I'm not an expert in any way, but the supports feel quite high to me. Regards, Henke

I am not an expert either, but I understand that reinforcement should not be less than 5 cm deep.

The problem is that a purchased retaining wall costs at least double, and then transport and assembly are added.
I have received the dimensions from two different retaining wall manufacturers. Of course, I have added a little for safety.
According to the reinforcement manufacturer, they sell 8-10 mm mesh to those who specifically make retaining walls.
The earth pressure? On the inside of the wall, the ground will be flat and will rise to about 2 meters. In other words, the wall will extend a bit above the ground level. In front of the footing, there will be earth over the footing and at least one meter forward before the slope begins.
Also, each block will be reinforced together with the block next to it. And there will be grooves on the side, which makes each block male and female, which should prevent further sliding.
It can also be said that the old wall is hand-cast on top of a stone wall. Pretty sure it also lacks reinforcement. It is barely 15 cm thick. But it has also cracked.
It started to crack during those cold winters that came one after the other. The fence on top consists of iron posts that are embedded. So, it has probably caused frost bursting.

Ok, I had double reinforced with the nets overlapping two squares tied so everything stays in place, with a cover layer of 3-5 cm concrete.
Then before backfilling, the support should probably stand for about a week after being cast. No compaction of the soil, gravel, stone that is filled there, I would let nature take its course and fill in as needed. But as I said, I'm no expert.

I don't think I can fit double meshes without increasing the thickness of the form, placing two meshes directly against each other must be a weakening, right?? The meshes must have a gap between them with cement.

Received advice from a former brick manufacturer. 12 mm iron vertically throughout (i.e., no seam or mat) and 8 mm iron horizontally all with a center-to-center spacing of 200 mm. Double layers at the bottom and on the outside halfway up.
Just sit down to start calculating the whole thing then. The excavator arrives on Monday.
