Shear cracks of this kind only occur due to changes in the foundation. What has caused these changes is another question.

I firmly claim that it is not needed. The earthquake I linked to could have caused this without damaging the foundation.

I am doubtful that the foundation would be damaged, since it is built on a gravel ridge, so the slab should be somewhat floating I think, compared to being fixed in a clay soil.

I have no other opinion on that. I think it's far-fetched that the slab would have settled, so an earthquake sounds like a good explanation for how movements in the foundation could have occurred.
