The house is from 1922 and the interior basement walls are really in poor condition. In the threads I found about basement walls (there are many), most discuss plastering, but here it feels like I should do something before slapping on plaster, otherwise, it will be a really thick layer. The concrete under the plaster is bad.
If I were to knock down everything loose, the walls would disappear. It's some loose concrete with large stones mixed in and some paint that I guess is dense, it feels a bit rubbery. In some basement rooms, there were linoleum mats on the floor, so all the moisture probably traveled up into the walls.
So my plan is to knock down enough to remove any dense paint and then repair them with, well what, before plastering with some lime mortar, but that's a later issue.
It hasn't gotten significantly worse during the 13 years we have lived here. I arranged roof drainage when we moved in, which probably helped, but the slab still absorbs moisture even in the middle of the house as the other picture (pillar-like) shows.
The outer walls are brick and they look fine. There, I only plan to knock off any loose plaster and leave the rest.
From what I've read, it seems like some type of C-mortar or D-mortar is suggested. But D-mortar, on the other hand, seems to be intended for facades, and C-mortar might be too strong?
Help me, wise internet people, you are my only hope.
In the top 2 pictures, remove all loose material.
Preferably all paint as well.
Apply in stages with 3mm B mortar until there is about 1-2 cm left.
Then switch to 3mm C plaster mortar, and then skim coat.
After that, apply suitable paint.
For picture 3, you might be able to use a lime mortar (E mortar).
But it feels like C mortar might also work.
But don't buy any 1 mm mortar.
Doesn't B-bruk spontaneously sound very harsh when the substrate is so loose?
It's so loose that I probably have to take it easy with the chopping, if I keep knocking until it stops crumbling, there might not be much left of the wall.
