I have a staircase that is completely covered with needle felt, both on the risers and treads.
I refuse to sand and remove the needle felt, I've tried but it's an enormous amount of work.
Isn't it possible to leave the needle felt in place and lay the laminate flooring over everything?
It might work as a sound dampener or what do you think?
Can this be done? I'm not a man asking this, but perhaps you've already figured that out!

We replaced the needle felt with a plastic mat that looks like old rustic oak planks. The stair nose was made of oak and of course, it remained. We were very pleased with the result and the staircase is very comfortable to walk on, not particularly slippery either. Almost everyone comments on the staircase and thinks it's beautiful. Even carpenters think we've covered the entire staircase with real wood...!
