Removing interior walls - what do we need to consider?
Hi,
we are soon moving into our new house. It's going to be a lot of fun. There are a few things that need to be done, including taking down a couple of walls on the upper floor. What do we need to consider?
- Are the walls (see those marked in red on the attached drawing) part of the load-bearing structure?
- If so, can we submit the building notification to the municipality ourselves, or does a structural engineer need to do it?

It is difficult to say when it is not clear from the drawing how the ridge runs in relation to the upper floor.
If I assume that it goes in the direction that is horizontal on the drawing, then the shorter red-marked wall is probably load-bearing. The longer red-marked wall, the one towards the living room, probably is not unless the part with the living room is an extension.
In any case, you need to consult a structural engineer to find out the actual situation.
You, the builder, should submit the building notification, but you will probably need to attach the findings of the engineer/designer.

Let's say you can easily determine on the spot that it is not load-bearing. Then you're probably looking at around 2000 SEK. It probably depends a bit on where you live.
Check your PM!
If the wall is not load-bearing, you probably don't need to make a building notification.
