Hi! We have an old intercom in our hallway that we would like to remove (it hasn't been in use for many, many years). It seems to be disconnected, at least nothing happens when you pick up the receiver. Unfortunately, we are not handy types, but we can at most fill and paint on our own. It would still be nice to avoid bringing in tradesmen for such a small task. Could we still manage this ourselves, and if so, how should we go about it? Anything in particular we should consider?
Thanks Åsa! It is a cooperative apartment and the association has informed that "you can just remove it" since it is no longer in use.Åsa Lund said:
Cut the threads and push them into the hole they go into. If the wall is wallpapered (and repainted), you can tape a piece of new wallpaper on top. Tape carefully so it doesn't move sideways. Then cut a square through BOTH layers of wallpaper. Carefully peel off the taped piece first. Then also remove the painted-over old wallpaper, scrape thoroughly. Now you have a section of wall without wallpaper and a new piece of wallpaper that fits that spot. Fill the electrical conduit with a bit of sealant. Glue the new wallpaper. Putty over it if necessary, after the wallpaper paste has dried. Paint. Done
