We need a new entrance staircase for our house. The staircase will likely be stone-clad.

We have been considering a prefab concrete staircase as our ground contractor recommended this over a site-built one. The reason was that the quality of the staircase would be better that way.

Attached is a principle sketch (viewed from above) with approximate measurements. We have drawn a landing with steps going down both directions from the landing towards the ground. An alternative could be to have a straight staircase down to the ground from the platform by the door.

I would like opinions on whether prefab concrete is preferable or if site-cast works just as well. Or another solution. What do you think would be best? Also attaching a picture of the prepared pillars and the facade.

  • Concrete footings with rebar near a house entrance, showing wall siding, a door, and prepared groundwork for a new entrance staircase.
Now I see that this post is a few years old, but I'm wondering how you finally solved it? I'm in a bit of the same situation 🙃
