Our house is just being built these days. I went out and looked yesterday and discovered a vent pipe for a fireplace through the slab. The thing is, we are not going to have a fireplace. There was one drawn on the original plan but we have always said that we will not have one. Asked the builder about this today. He says it's "prepared" for a fireplace in the future. I find it strange. Shouldn't we have been informed and asked? If nothing else, for the placement?? He said it's just a matter of putting a cap on it when we lay the floor. But we are going to have tiles throughout the house. I don't know... it just feels like they happened to make a mistake and don't want to admit it.
What do you think?
Does it affect the house/slab/heating/floor negatively?

It's quite simple to plug at both ends and IF you sell, the next owner could be a fireplace person who can then easily get their air supply. Even if you cast a concrete plug inside, it's easy to remove later IF a fireplace is to be installed.

It feels completely natural for the builder to install the ventilation pipe if it is included in the drawings.

It was drawn on the original drawing and has remained on the others but since it was crystal clear between us and the carpenter that we shouldn't have one, we didn't think about it. It's also not included in the contract.
