Planning to install a new ceiling and considering using OSB and gypsum board, is that a bad idea or not?
The reason I don't want just gypsum board is to avoid a lot of hassle when hanging things from the ceiling (lanterns, lamps, projectors, etc., etc.). I will also have OSB and gypsum on all the walls for the same reason but can't find any information about it for ceilings.
Thanks in advance

You can of course have OSB in your ceiling, even though it is unusual. Normally, there is a sparse panel cc 300 under (or over, depending on how you look at it) the plasterboard, so it is usually easy to find a beam to screw into when putting things up.
I don't know how your sparse panel is attached, nor do I know how much load two three-inch nails can bear before they come out.
Worth considering before you load the ceiling with twice as much weight, or well, OSB is a bit lighter than gypsum, but it will be more weight than just gypsum.

Most things are screwed today, especially when it's going on the ceiling to prevent any pull-out if you have some weights, at least that's what I do.JOW said:I don't know how your sparse panel is attached, nor do I know how much tension you can load onto two or three-inch nails before they come loose.
