Hi!

Instead of painting the ceiling, I'm considering installing new panels on top (or underneath) instead. Byggmax / smartpanel. The existing ceiling is particle board attached directly to the rafters, and it's a bit wavy and also has a small crack that the previous owner painted over. Can I screw directly into the particle board or do I need to use some kind of framework?

You can place strips of, for example, masonite in the rows where you plan to screw the new roof.

Ah, good idea. I assume you mean to fill in just where it gaps, or all the way? And if the gap is less than 3.2mm, should you sand the masonite thinner?

You can go over the roof and see where it's needed.

Ah, I get it. Thanks for the help. Now it's just a matter of waiting for byggmax to open. :-)

Chipboard in the ceiling is not the smartest, it sags way too easily. You'll have problems getting new boards to be flat. It's a bit of Shakespeare, to lay in between or not to lay in between......

Take down the chipboard and put up plywood, also available at Byggmax.

Hmm... The annoying thing about removing the chipboard is that there is 20 cm of sawdust right above it. I changed it in a small closet that was water damaged and it was quite a lot just in that little room.

Hello again!

I got cold feet and didn't go to ByggMax. Closest to the outer wall, there's a hefty bump of at least 10 mm, and it feels like a bit too much to adjust with masonite.

A level tool is placed against a wall with floral wallpaper, highlighting a noticeable bulge in the plaster near the corner.

Take down and set sparse c/c 30 if you can.

Take a deep breath, think it over....
Quick fix or something lasting...

20 cm of sawdust equals 10 cm of mineral wool.....

Quick fix, buy plywood and lift it with a jack for a straighter ceiling, nothing more.

Lasting, shovel out/vacuum out the sawdust, tear down the chipboard, blow in ecofiber as insulation, put up ceiling panels. Now you have a straight ceiling with better insulation.

Or the simplest, squint a bit and repaint the chipboard ceiling.

It actually leans towards that. :) A bit of a tight budget right now, but I want to take the opportunity to fix the room during the Easter break when all other plans have changed. It's just so boring to paint the ceiling, so new tiles seemed so simple.

Just one last thought, what do you think about using battens and a jack? Perpendicular to the hanging bulge? Getting up large plywood sheets seems difficult for one person.

PS. I've considered ecofiber but plan to go for it when the finances improve.
