I plan to lower the old ceiling by 45 mm, among other things to run new electricals there, and it's already close to 2.60 in ceiling height. But like everything else in this DIY project, it's uneven and crooked. I measure a 3 cm difference in height at different places upon a quick check. Previously, there was a pine ceiling that darkened and hardly anyone noticed how uneven it was, but now it's a kitchen there and it will be a light-colored under-ceiling.

I've installed 45x45 along the ceiling beams (yes, the pine ceiling is nailed into the beams) and will diagonally use 22x95 as nailing battens for the new ceiling panels. I will measure the lowest point on the ceiling and use it as a reference point.
Should I then take pieces of masonite and run even 3-6-9-12....mm leveling at each point where I attach the 22x95 to the 45x45? Or straight from the side and level attach another 45x45 along each 45x45 that is screwed upwards into the ceiling joists? Or what other suggestions do you have? I have never leveled a ceiling before and I'm going crazy over everything that's crooked and wonky in this house.
