Last year, we had a construction company build an extension at an angle. We were extremely satisfied in every way. Today, we discovered something that we and the inspector missed, which we would like to get fixed:
The sketch is a bit crudely done, but the "problem" is that the gutter is positioned too far out compared to the existing building. This also causes a slight issue on the other side of the extension where it joins the house, where there is a small clash between the fascia board cover and the gutter. It was a friend who was standing and looking who made us aware of this.
The question now is, how can this be best fixed? It's been too long for me to have the energy to argue with the company; they were, as I said, very skilled and pleasant and simply hadn’t thought about this when building. There is no technical fault in how they did it; it’s purely aesthetic from our side.
How should we go about fixing it? It's about 6 cm that both gutters need to be moved inwards. I think you would need to lift the bottom row of roof tiles, unscrew the gutter brackets and move them in, bending them so they can be 6 cm further in/up while still being at the same level as before. Then cut the bottom roof tile so that water can flow into the gutter at the same spot as before. There is a batten at the bottom, which I think should be trimmed to fit a few centimeters in as well. The eaves and the membrane should not be touched.
As mentioned, pictures.. but in my (sheet metal worker) world, the problem is due to the hook being vertical, but the fascia board is angled against the roof slope? Then there will be a gap at the bottom between the hook and the fascia board. But the hook is against the last odor, so I don't understand how it could be moved in.
It's possible that a different type of hook could solve the problem.
