I drilled some holes to mount a hat rack. I started with some discreet 3mm holes to check that there was nothing unusual in the wall, and when it seemed OK, I drilled up to 10mm for molly. That's when Murphy smirked at me... the molly (for double gypsum) is 65 mm long. On part of the surface, the gap in the wall is smaller than expected, so I can only insert the molly 50 mm. (There's another apartment on the other side, so I'm not keen on drilling deeper.) It's frustrating, as the molly fits when mounted, but there's no space to mount it. Moving the shelf isn't ideal, and the holes will be hard to conceal. Are there shorter molly options or something else I can use instead?

Look at toggler

I will do that. Spontaneously, they also look a bit long to fit into the wall, but if I bevel the hole a bit on the inside, maybe I can push it in at an angle and then get it in place. (I haven't seen one in real life yet, just googled a picture.)

- Insert the Molly until it bottoms out (against whatever it encounters)
- Use a Molly pliers to tighten it (it will then become less deep - which allows you to pinch it anyway)
- If the screw is too long to pinch, simply switch to a shorter screw

Go for it :)
