I have a furnished space in a basement with moisture breakthrough on a partition wall. I've previously had plumbers who said to just live with the moisture. You have to chip away and paint...

Now I haven't addressed this room for 2 years and have now chipped away a lot of soft plaster and it doesn't smell like mold, more like "dampness."

Do you have any good tips on repairs? I read about 3 mm C plaster? I've used house fix on the outside of the house once. It was easy to work with, but maybe it doesn't fit? Does anyone know?!

Sorry if I sound completely clueless, because I probably am... and poor ;) and single haha

But I have to tackle this room and don't know where to start... feels like that wooden floor should be torn up too maybe (feels like it's not optimal).
I also have a teenage son who wants to turn this room into a man-cave.

All tips are gratefully received. Also tips on paint! I've heard about silicate...

  • Damp wall corner in basement with exposed plaster and wooden floor. Partial wall damage is visible, showing signs of moisture. Light bulbs hang on the right.
  • Damaged basement wall with visible plaster erosion and moisture issues near a wooden floor corner. A small pipe runs along the wall.
No direct tips on the repair, but when was the house built? Do you know if there is insulation under the concrete? By the way, what did the baseboard look like on the backside?

The house was built in 52. Lightweight concrete… plaster. Under the baseboard it was porous… so I removed it and scraped off all the loose material. Maybe 1 cm of loose plaster. No idea if there is insulation under the concrete…

I was thinking more about the back of the actual baseboard. Assuming it's made of wood and if it has been wet, it may have molded.

Yes, it was probably a bit moldy. So it has been thrown away.
