Considering creating an opening in a wall between the kitchen and VR in a 1960s townhouse. I don't know what material the wall is made of or if it's load-bearing. Can this be determined if I can get a blueprint of the house? Or do I need to have a construction company check it? If it's lightweight concrete and not "solid" concrete, can I determine that before starting the work? I'm a painter, not a builder... Can offer answers to your painting questions!!!

The drawing might provide that information, but if it doesn't give the answer, as a painter, you can probably patch up the surface easily after doing a small test. Joking aside, the best approach is usually to disassemble and inspect the construction.

Drill and form an idea of whether it's hollow (probably gypsum on wooden studs).
If not, remove the surface layer (likely plaster) and study whether the inner material is brick or perhaps aerated concrete (soft and can easily be crumbled with a nail or screwdriver). If you can't remove the surface layer, the wall is probably made of concrete.

Across the truss likely load-bearing, depending on the truss construction. Along the truss probably not load-bearing. But never take chances! Bring a carpenter home from a construction site and give him a case of beer as thanks for helping by taking a look at it for you.

Thanks for the answers! Will get back to you on the matter...
