Hello

I'm working on a project that was previously located, but has apparently been moved to http://forum.byggahus.se/socialt-pro...laegenhet.html

I now want to throw out a question/thought regarding my gable where I plan to install some windows and thereby adjust some load-bearing regulations on the existing structure. In my opinion, this should work, right? Suggestions, opinions?

  • Red wooden house with planned structural changes outlined in yellow on the gable in preparation for adding windows; a tarp covers part of the lower section.
  • Red house gable with planned window placements outlined in yellow. Concept for adding windows to adjust the load-bearing structure.
my first thought is what is under the lowest beam?

the transfer itself seems to work as you move the force downward.
but you add so much more weight in the middle of the lower beam
due to the windows which it hasn't had before.

Though the windows' weight is nothing compared to the loads it already takes. Namely, the building's own weight and snow loads. I can't see any problems whatsoever with doing as you planned.

Also think that it looks complete and exactly as you intended to do goahead!

Thanks for the reflections guys. I can briefly tell you that under the bottom rule there are standing thick logs spaced 120 cm apart. So there is plenty of support underneath, which is why I did not draw what was below. I have just started with the implementation and I am almost finished. It feels like it's working perfectly fine and the building is still standing.

What function were the braces at the loft door intended to have in the old design?

This lateral stabilization disappears in the new proposal...

But it is not certain that there were any direct reasons for the braces either, sometimes things are built in certain ways because "it is supposed to be like that" or for "it looks nice" ... ;)
