The house was built in '64, with a basement underneath the entire structure. What can one expect the garage floor to withstand? I mean a ton on as few cm2 as a jack stands on, is there a risk that the floor won't handle it?

Compression is almost never a problem with concrete, it is tension that concrete cannot handle, which is why reinforcement is required.

If you are worried, place a thicker metal plate underneath to distribute the force (or chip away some of the floor and recess a plate).
