Hello. We are going to renovate our kitchen and we want to connect the hallway with the kitchen. We were thinking of making a larger opening in a wall but do not know if it is load-bearing. The opening is 70 cm today. We would like to make it 180 cm wide. The pictures are a bit poor as the drawings are old. Red marking indicates the intended demolition. Old floor plan sketch showing house layout with rooms labeled "Sovrum" and "Hall"; red mark indicating proposed wall removal for renovation. Old floor plan showing a kitchen, hallway, and living room with a red line indicating the proposed wall removal for expanding an opening. Old building plan showing intended wall demolition in red, with highlighted area for expanding kitchen-hallway opening from 70 cm to 180 cm. Old architectural drawing showing a section view of a house with measurements. The drawing is used to discuss renovation plans for a kitchen and hallway.

It is most likely load-bearing. Feel free to rotate the basement plan so it becomes a bit easier to see on the drawings:D

I have rotated all the images so that they are in the same direction.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I arranged the images as they are in reality. So all the images are oriented in the same cardinal direction. Hence my nice arrows on the sides :). If I arrange the basement floor image as drawn, the floor plan doesn't match because the garage is under the kitchen. I hope you understand :P.

It is definitely a load-bearing wall.

Thank you for all the answers. Indeed, the wall is load-bearing. We have contacted a construction company that will come and demolish and reinforce with glulam beam. (y)

Is there someone at the company who is a structural engineer, or do you need to bring someone in to size the beam, etc.?
Carpenters and the like usually do not have sufficient knowledge for that.

When interfering with load-bearing structures, you must make a building notification to the municipality.
